Hartlepool Folk Festival
The Second Hartlepool Folk Festival takes place 21-23 October. With a fantastic new site at the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool and mainstage concerts at the Town Hall Theatre, you can enjoy the country's finest folk artists in a variety of atmospheric settings. The 18th century quayside and the tall ship HMS Trincomalee will host concerts, outdoor performances, workshops, sessions and singarounds, talks and screenings.
There's loads for families to do and special discounts for Hartlepool residents - a wonderful weekend awaits!

Already a respected interpreter of traditional material, Nancy Kerr has emerged as a songwriter of rare style, with compelling lyrics and an assured musicianship. She was the BBC Folk Singer of the Year 2015. Jim Moray, one of folk’s true innovators, brings us songs from his first solo album in 5 years. Findlay Napier is one of Scotland’s favourite singer-songwriters, known for his work with Boo Hewardine and Eddi Reader.

Andy Irvine is one of the truly great Irish singers, who has been hailed as a one-man tradition, a world music pioneer and an icon for traditional music and musicians. Tyneside’s Tom McConville is a leading fiddle player, and a former BBC Folk Musician of the Year. The Rheingans Sisters draw on a range of European traditions for their own compositions and arrangements. They won Best Original Song at the BBC Folk Awards 2016.

A new staging of Graeme Miles' iconic suite of songs, featuring an all-star cast including the Wilsons, the Young'Uns, Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, Vin Garbutt, Rowan Rheingans and the Rachel Hamer Band.
Ironopolis is a collection of songs which bring the region's heritage to vivid life. While it explores the history of the people who built industrial Middlesbrough, it also paints the countryside for which they continually yearned: the beautiful Cleveland Hills. Ironopolis contains classic Graeme Miles songs such as Ring of Iron, The Banks of the Tees, and Jack Ironside.

Calling all rude boys and rude girls! Our Saturday night dance club features a ceilidh with a twist. Dance to all your favourite traditional tunes with our house ceilidh band and caller Phil Bassendale. Then around midnight, the band is joined by some of the North East's finest ska musicians: fiddle and melodeon rub shoulders with fat brass and the signature Hammond sound, and the result is a ceilidh like no other! Madness, Specials, the Selecter, the Beat and more.
The theme is black and white - fancy dress not compulsory, but very welcome!

Inviting comparison with celebrated harmony duos such as Kate and Anna McGarrigle, O’Hooley & Tidow’s deeply moving and soulful performances are infused with an honesty that can disarm the hardest of heart. Mawkin are a bunch of cheeky Essex scamps with a jolly song style underpinned by seriously good musicianship. Imar are a really exciting new band featuring members of Mànran, RURA, Talisk, Barrule, Cara, Mabon and The Lowground. They created a buzz at Celtic Connections this year, and are set to explode onto the folk scene in 2017.

Blackbeard’s Tea Party give traditional songs and tunes a rock edge, with playful arrangements and driving dance rhythms that leave audiences roaring for more. Teesside’s the Young’Uns need no introduction – the finest harmony singers on the current folk scene, plus the irreverent humour that’s become their hallmark; it’s no wonder they can boast two BBC Folk Awards for Best Band. Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson are young pipe players – you may know Ross from the Treacherous Orchestra – whose duo performances are nothing short of electrifying.
